Phew! I love a rainy day.
I love the smells, sounds, the green that comes afterwards and more than anything the unwritten permission to slow down and take care.
I wish we could bring that energy to more kinds of days. We say it’s a rainy day so I’ll curl up in bed with a good book, get cozy, have that warm drink, etc… what if we could bring that self-care vibe to whatever day we might need it?
Sunny day, oh what a perfect time for an iced tea, a good book and a sun bath in bed…
I saw a tiktok the other day that described the Canadian Urge; that once the weather is nice, the people are OUT and ABOUT. But that’s not totally true, we see folks on patios and at beaches but we don’t see the folks who are having a hard time, stuck in bed or whatever coping place they find themselves in. As we don’t see them they can feel that much more alone. Except on rainy days when we say it’s okay to stay put.
Don’t let the weather and social pressures dictate your self-care. It may mean adjustment or having extra tools but no matter what outside is doing it is okay to listen to your own wants and needs. Need a walk on rainy day? Maybe bring that umbrella and rainsuit or practice radical acceptance and get SOAKED, let it rinse away whatever doesn’t serve you. Need rest on a sunny day? Embrace your inner cat and SOAK up the sun.
Enjoy what you need, no matter what the sky says and take that rainy day permission to chill whenever you need it.
