Therapy
FAQs
What is the Cancellation Policy?
As I have saved a spot for you, the more notice the more opportunity I have to fill that hour and earn my income.
I ask that folks try to give 24 hours notice and pay for reserving my time if unable to do so.
This can be negotiated and I will have understanding if emergencies come up.
What if I’m late for an Appointment?
For virtual or phone, I check in then wait until 10 minutes after the appointment time.
This can be more flexible if you communicate you are running late.
After these times I will consider it a no show and charge for the appointment time. After 2 no shows we can discuss if therapy is appropriate at this time.
Can I say Hi if I see you out in the world?
If I see you outside of the therapeutic relationship, I will act like I do not know you but will follow your lead as your confidentiality is yours. So, yes you can say hi. I won’t introduce you to who I am with, I won’t intiate contact and I will be brief.
What are the exceptions to confidentiality
I have an MFT supervision group whom I may seek advice or processing from.
I have legal responsiblities if someone is about experience harm but will discuss options with you before calling anyone.
We all have legal responsiblities to report child welfare concerns.
In rare legal cases my records can be supenoed.
and lastly, if you have other helpers in your life I’ll ask permission to work together with them to best serve you.
What’s the first SEssion like?
Usually awkward!! Note, it is my job to try to make you feel as safe as possible. I will invite you to listen to your gut to see if I’m the right therapist for you and can provide referrals if you want. Most of the first session is getting to know each other and making a game plan for what therapy can look like. This may include going over goals, talking about previous counselling/therapy and what helped/didn’t, and of course you are welcome to ask me anything (I will maintain my boundaries if uncomfy but you can ask).
Are there any sliding scale options for therapy?
Yes! I’ve made some coupon codes to support folks who can’t addord $125 for 50 minutes but can’t have the deal for EVERYONE. So, please email me at Becauseitscaresme@gmail.com , let me know the situation and I’ll send the appropriate coupon code. OR book a Meet and Greet and we can discuss the rate that does work. The coupon codes do not expire, and as the economy is messy you can pay full price when it is possible and coupons when not.
How are you held accountable as a therapist?
This is so important! First by you! I welcome feedback, and would love to learn about any ways I may have caused harm and work to repair it.
I am accountable to the Canadian Association for Couple and Family Therapy
(CACFT) and their code of ethics found here: https://camft.ca/Code-of-Ethics and you can ask for a complaint form here: admin@cacft.ca
